IF YOU MISSED THE 5X5 PICK UP DAY, WE WILL RESUME NORMAL GALLERY HOURS FRIDAY, JUNE 5. If you need to pick up sooner, please email info@tacgallery.org to make other arrangements.

Because our current show is a performance piece, 5×5 pickups will not be possible during the performances.

Happening Now: Kinetic Stillness: A Dance /Spoken Word Installation

SATURDAYS, MAY 23 and 30, 8:00PM AND

SUNDAYS, MAY 24 and 31, 2:00pm

Written and Directed by Michael Wright

This theatrical event will happen on Saturdays May 23 and 30 from 8pm to 9pm; and Sundays May 24 and 31 from 2pm to 3pm.

The public will find themselves in the center of this dance/spoken word performance in the intimate space of the TAC Gallery.

This event is free and open to the public.

Regarding the meditative part of this work, Wright explains, “In the meditative state, the sitter may be in sustained focus on in ‘monkey mind’ where the brain will not settle.”

He goes on to explain the interaction among the various elements of dance, music and visual images: “By utilizing the relatively confined space of the TAC Gallery, we are examining these two states of meditation with the environment serving as a physical metaphor of the mind through dance and movement, as well as images.”

He adds, “The dance and other movement forms are co-created by myself and TU Professor Jessica Vokoun. The visual images are based on sources such as mantras, ‘The Tibetan Book of the Dead’, ‘The Heart Sutra’ and Tibetan Deity Icons. Each performance will be for a small audience, repeated several times each evening. In fact, the audience sits or stands in the center with dance happening around them, thus creating an interaction between the dancing observed and the displayed images.”

About TAC

The Tulsa Artists’ Coalition (TAC) is a volunteer-run, nonprofit organization of artists and art supporters, formed to encourage and support emerging and established contemporary artists, and to foster the development of new forms and multidisciplinary work in Tulsa and surrounding communities. TAC is supported through grants, art sales, and membership dues.

The TAC Gallery

Long ago, TAC decided that the best way to support artists was to provide them with a venue to display quality, contemporary art—especially work which may not otherwise have a home in a traditional commercial gallery. As a result, we created the TAC Gallery, which since 1996 has resided in the heart of downtown Tulsa’s Brady Arts District.

Each year, the TAC Gallery hosts approximately ten month-long shows by artists in a variety of media and 1-2 group shows.
