Opening Reception  June 5, 2015, 6p.m. – 9p.m.

The public will have an opportunity to meet the artist at the opening reception from 6pm to 9pm on June 5th.

This event is free and open to the public and is part of the Brady Arts District’s First Friday Art Crawl.

Ms. McMahan explains lorem ipsum as follows:

“The work of a print designer is here one day and gone the next – a temporary solution to a permanent problem. A client needs a design yesterday, the target audience sees it today, and it’s obsolete tomorrow – the life cycle of print. Notwithstanding, advertising is wherever and whenever, creating a visual dialogue for the senses and prompting consumerism. Billboards have long been a part of the dialogue, changing the landscape and forcing our attention. And it is here on a (paper) billboard that the life cycle of print is perhaps more evident: a new ad replaces the old, layer upon layer upon layer.  And as my images show, the delineation between layers can disappear and manifest into a new design – a collage of the obsolete; lorem ipsum of images; the end of print.”

Artist Statement:

I have also been exploring and incorporating other media in my artwork, such as painting, photography, furniture design, lighting design and installation art, while exploring and working with various materials, such as wood, plastic and found materials. In my work, the project dictates the medium. My process works toward pureness, both in craft and form; keeping it simple – but not simple in its message. I want my work to engage and encourage dialogue, questions – that’s most important. I’m most inspired by a few giants of design, who have worked in other media, as well: Milton Glaser, Paul Rand and Paula Scher.
