Carla Hefley
I'm mainly an oil painter. I began painting in 2009 for my mental health which was suffering from devastating losses of my best friend and then my mother. It was compounded with empty nester syndrome and turning the big 50. Painting brought light back to my life after so much darkness.
My focus began with florals but have now added the beautiful Oklahoma landscape and an occasional portrait. The seasons of Oklahoma landscapes
provide a plethora of compositions to capture in paint, sometimes the same scene over and over again with the changing seasons.
Painting has brought to me a different way to look the world. Stopping to really observe each and every shadow and bright light has enhanced my world.
I've also won numerous first place ribbons in local art competitions, one honor being 1st in the MORE Color at the Dennis E Neill Equality Center.
I've also had the joy of showing in two Allied Artists of America shows in New York City at the historic Salmagundi Club.
My art education consists of junior high art for three years and time from 2009-17 in a Tuesday afternoon class with local artist, Ross Myers . Adding to the art education have been opportunities to take workshops with such highly acclaimed artists as David Leffel, Sherri McGraw, Derek Penix, Daniel Keys, Kelli Folsom, Charles Ewing, Christopher Westfall, Romel de la Torre, Tim Tyler, Lori Putnum, Kevin Beilfuss, Patrick Saunders, Chantel Barber, and Gil Adams.
